Footnotes

Write a footnote reference with [^label] and define it anywhere on its own line with [^label]: text. Labels can be numbers or words.

Trees exchange water through their roots.[^1]
[^1]: Observed in beech forests.

Insert → Footnote (macOS: ⇧⌘F, Windows and Linux: Ctrl+Shift+F) inserts the next free number and adds the definition at the end of the document for you.

MDLeaf renders footnotes as endnotes: a numbered list after a rule at the end of the document, with links back to the reference. They flow over pages like normal text. If the document has a table of contents, the notes section is not listed in it.

# Math and footnotes
The area of a circle is $A = \pi r^2$.[^1]
$$
\int_0^1 x^2\,dx = \frac{1}{3}
$$
Euler's identity, $e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0$, links five constants.[^euler]
[^1]: For a circle of radius $r$.
[^euler]: Named after Leonhard Euler.
Inline and display math with KaTeX, and footnotes collected as endnotes.
