Profiles
A profile is a named page setup: page size, orientation, margins, theme, and whether the header and footer are hidden on the first page. Every document uses one profile, chosen in the top bar.
Built-in profiles
Section titled “Built-in profiles”| Profile | Page | Margins | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default (A4) | A4, 210 × 297 mm, portrait | 25 mm | Classic |
| Default (Letter) | Letter, 8.5 × 11 in, portrait | 1 in | Classic |
New documents use the default profile: Letter in the US, Canada and Mexico, A4 elsewhere. Change it in Settings → General. Built-in profiles cannot be changed; Duplicate to edit makes your own copy.
Your profiles
Section titled “Your profiles”Settings → Profiles lists the profiles. Each has:
- Name and theme.
- Page size: A4, Letter or custom (50–1000 mm). Sizes are always entered as portrait; orientation turns the page.
- Margins for each side, with Link all sides. The text area always stays at least 20 mm wide and tall.
- Hide header on first page and Hide footer on first page.
Values can be shown in millimetres or inches; they are stored in millimetres. Changes apply immediately to every document using the profile.
Deleting a profile that documents use asks for a replacement profile.
Per-document overrides
Section titled “Per-document overrides”Document settings (macOS: ⇧⌘,, Windows and Linux: Ctrl+Shift+,) lets one document differ from its profile. Tick Override next to a field to change it for this document only; the others keep following the profile. Save as new profile… turns the current combination into a profile.
The document’s .mdl export contains its profile, so the page setup travels with it.
