Pasting images
Paste an image (macOS: ⌘V, Windows and Linux: Ctrl+V) or drop image files onto the editor. MDLeaf opens the Add image dialog, stores the file in the document’s assets and inserts the Markdown where you pasted or dropped.
| Field | Default |
|---|---|
| File name | pasted-YYYYMMDD-HHmmss for screenshots, otherwise the original name. The extension follows the format. |
| Location | the folder you used last; New folder… creates one |
| Alt text | empty |
| Width | empty; for example 60%, 400px or 80mm — added as {width=…} |
The dialog shows the resulting path. If a file with that path exists, tick Replace existing file or change the name.
When you paste several images, the dialog opens once per image (Add image (2 of 3)). Each one is inserted after the previous one; Cancel all stops.
Inserting images you already have
Section titled “Inserting images you already have”Insert → Image… (macOS: ⇧⌘I, Windows and Linux: Ctrl+Shift+I) opens a picker with all the document’s images. Type to filter, use the arrow keys, and press Enter. Upload new… adds images from disk through the same dialog.
- Only images can be added. Other files are ignored with a message.
- Dropping a
.mdor.mdlfile onto the editor does nothing; import those in the Library. - In a window where the document is read-only, pasting images is disabled.
